Is it really that shocking that in the last few months all these companies have or is facing administration?
Blockbusters and H.M.V have just announced they are going into administration, As nasty as my title is i believe most of the country will agree that this is a shame but it needs to go.
H.M.V started as a record selling shop along with tapes etc , later on in the 90′s H.M.V started selling cd’s, mini discs, posters, t-shirts. Why oh why it went into selling all of the above but added Consoles, Games, PC games etc.To read more about H.M.V Click Here
Blockbuster started as a movie rental business it then moved into selling movies, games consoles and selling iPods and if left to carry on, i think we would have seen them move into selling music albums, not just renting movies !
Game started as a computer game shop and nearly ended as a game shop ! recently i went in to my local game shop and they had a space dedicated in the store to car phone warehouse ! selling mobile phones!
Lets be fair , they’ve all treading on each others feet and in this massive sore foot battle they have now all shot themselves in the foot. Instead of concentrating on there own brand and their own categories they’ve jumped right into others because they think the others making a killing. Competition is high on the high street
I have a LoveFilm account , i also have a Netflix account and its such a shame that blockbuster didn’t cotton onto the fact that this was the way forward, instead they concentrated on how we could implement games into the store, and try and steal away customers from there own created rivals, game, hmv and various other.
I used to love blockbuster, used to go in every week, how ever over time i noticed prices starting to match those at the cinema. So you go into rent a DVD, you then get talked into renting 3 for £10, then you buy popcorn, sweets and drinks, maybe a tub of Ben and Jerrys as a treat. By this point you have spent exactly what you would have spent at the cinema!!!
Whats Next, Cinemas maybe ?

I wouldnt suprise me if the cinema companies are the next to suffer. I am forever seeing people complaining about the extremely overpriced hot dogs (£7!!!), fruit shoots (£3.50!) and popcorn, you can even by alcohol in some now!! I lost interest in going to the cinema now. I don’t think im the only person!
When i was a kid i remember my mother taking me to the cinema on a regular basis she used to budget it by sending me with a drink and a packet of popcorn and i used to get in for around £1.50. The last time i went to the cinima i went with my family so there was 5 of us (3 kids, 2 adults), we went to watch the new madagascar film in 3d, your not allowed to take your own drinks or food in so we each had a drink and a hotdog here’s a break down of the cost for seeing this 2hr movie:
5 ticket @ £8.99 = £44.95, 5 hot dogs @ £6.99 = £34.95, 2 fruit shoots @ £3.50 = 10.50, 2 coffees @ £3.99 = £7.98 total cost £98.47
Who are the cinemas catering for ?? is this not supposed to be a great family fun night out, aimed at families, kids, teenagers? £98.47 to take my family to the cinema !! is this a joke?. Surprisingly It costs less to take your family to Blackpool pleasure beach on a family ticket than it is to take your family to the cinema. I won’t be taking my family to the cinema again for a while I’m guessing theirs allot of people that think the same way, because the last time i was at the cinema 75% of the seats in the cinema was empty.
For £44.95 i could buy a sky movies subscription package get free installation have 20 movie channels, rent out 3 movies from sky box office all for £44.95. with the £34.47 it cost me for 5 hotdogs i could buy 180 hotdogs from my local supermarket, with the £10.50 i paid for the 2 fruit shoos i could have bought 24 bottles of Fruit shoots again from the local supermarket the coffee at £7.98 you can buy a big can of nescafe that would make a 100 cups of coffee
They blame Technology taking over, They blame piracy on the internet, They blame the credit crunch!, but They don’t seem to blame them selfs these companies need to stop seeing us as pound signs and go back to seeing us as their valued customers the companies need to move with the times and join the technology world not blame it for killing them, they need to bring down the prices of C.D’s and games not tempt piracy. Credit crunch … bloody hell, could this not be their best seller? what cheaper way could there be by stopping in and watching a rented movie!
